Once the main treatment period with braces is finished and they are removed, it is vitally important that your teeth remain in place.
To do this retainers are used to hold your teeth until your bone, gums, and muscles adapt to the new positions.
The amount of time that retainers should be worn will vary – your orthodontist will explain this in detail to you as part of your treatment plan.
In some cases a more permanent retainer may be required, where thin metal wires are attached the inside surface of the teeth.
Retainers are a crucial phase of your treatment as your teeth can move back to their original positions and you will lose all the benefits of the work that’s been done.
